#12 Perform a solo recital - CHECK!

Last Sunday Feb. 8, I performed in my first solo recital. This is the first recital I've done that was totally organized by yours truly. It was a lot more work than I anticipated but SO worth it! It was scary, thrilling, energizing, emotional, and all broadcast via Skype to my Dad in Denver. (Hi Dad!)

The program was diverse and challenging. At one point in the performance I was thinking..."really? why did you choose to do such ridiculously hard songs. Geez, I think I might pass out if you don't sit down!" But I didn't pass out and I far exceeded the expectations I set for my self. Isn't that what it is all about anyway.

Here is what I sang:

Rejoice Greatly, O Daughter of Zion" from Messiah - Handel
"Alleluia" from Exultate Jubilate - Mozart
"Zueignung" - Strauss
"Rastlose Liebe" - Schubert
"Do Not Go My Love" - Hageman
"Silent Noon" - Vaughn Williams
"Laughing Song" from Die Fledermaus - Strauss
"Non Mi Dir" from Don Giovanni - Mozart
"Apres Un Reve" - Faure
"Beau Soir" - Debussy
"And This Is My Beloved" from Kismet - Wright & Forrest
"It's a Grand Night for Singing" from State Fair - Rogers & Hammerstein

It was not a perfect performance by any means but I can't remember the last time I enjoyed singing so much. For many of the audience members that have known me for a long time (my in laws, my boss, my sorority sisters) this was the first time they have heard me sing. It was such an honor to share my talent with them. I have an audio recording that I'm trying to figure out how to post but it is the recital as a whole..about 45 min. So I'm not sure that it will make it on to this post. We'll see. Here are some photos:

What a great turnout! I still wish I was there! I kinda feel like I was by seeing all the pictures but I hear there's a disk floating around. I hope we can watch it together this summer!
